Who is eligible to apply?
- U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and eligible non-citizens are considered for all merit awards and other scholarships.
- International students are considered for the Trustee and Presidential Scholarships only.
- While criteria varies for each scholarship, recipients typically:
- Rank in the top 5% of their high school class
- Have shown incredible extracurricular achievements in their schools and communities
- Though test scores are not required, students who submit scores typically have SAT scores above 1500 and ACT scores above 33

Trustee Scholarship
BU’s most prestigious scholarship, scholars become part of a unique campus community that offers intellectual, cultural and social opportunities. All students are considered for the Trustee Scholarship: U.S. citizens, permanent residents, eligible non-citizens, and international students.

Presidential Scholarship
Given to first-year students from around the globe who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. In addition to being among our most talented students, they also excel beyond the classroom and are leaders in their schools and communities.
All students are considered for the Presidential Scholarship: U.S. citizens, permanent residents, eligible non-citizens, and international students.
Annual Value: $25,000
Deadline: December 1
National Merit Scholarship
Finalists in the National Merit Competition who designate BU as first choice college with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation before March 1 will be considered for this award.
Annual Value: Presidential Scholarship
Deadline: March 1
Submitting the FAFSA and CSS Profile is recommended
College Board National Recognition Programs
For students recognized by the College Board National Recognition Programs who have exceptionally strong academic records.
Annual Value: $25,000
Deadline: January 1
FAFSA and CSS Profile are recommended
College of Engineering FIRST Robotics
For College of Engineering applicants who have participated in at least one season with a FIRST Robotics team.
Annual Value: $25,000
Deadline: February 1

Merit Scholarships For Transfer Students
Who is eligible to apply?
Please note: Nominees for all scholarships must be United States citizens, permanent residents, or eligible non-citizens.

List Of Boston University Merit Scholarships For Transfer Students
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Award
Recognizes outstanding academic and leadership achievement among Phi Theta Kappa members seeking to transfer to Boston University. Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisors are invited to nominate up to two candidates for this program.
Amount: $25,000
Number of Awards: Up to five from among those nominated.
Deadline: Nomination forms should be submitted by the Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor no later than March 1.
Credit requirements: A minimum of 60 transferable credits.
Bunker Hill Community College Scholarship Award
For transfer students from Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) who have been nominated by the college
Amount: Full tuition
Deadline: Nominations must be submitted no later than March 1. Only open to September-term transfer applicants
Requirements: Minimum 3.5 GPA at BHCC and must be a graduate of one of the Boston Public High Schools
Credit requirements: Minimum of 60 transferable credits
Massachusetts Bay Community College Scholarship Award
For selected transfer students from Massachusetts Bay Community College (MBCC) who have been nominated by the college
Amount: Full tuition
Deadline: Nominations must be submitted no later than March 1. Only open to September-term transfer applicants
Requirements: Minimum 3.5 GPA at MBCC and must be a graduate of one of the Boston Public High Schools
Credit requirements: Minimum of 60 transferable credits
Roxbury Community College Scholarship Award
For selected transfer students from Roxbury Community College (RCC) who are nominated by the college
Amount: Full tuition
Deadline: Nominations must be submitted no later than March 1. Only open to September-term transfer applicants
Requirements: Minimum 3.5 GPA at RCC
Credit requirements: Minimum of 60 transferable credits
BU Community Service Award for Transfer Students
The BU Community Service Award is a unique program open to transfer students who graduated from a Boston Public High School.
Amount: Full calculated financial need of students met without loans.
Deadline: Application for admission and submission of the FAFSA and CSS Profile™ by the September-term or January-term transfer deadlines.
Details: All graduates of Boston Public High Schools will receive no-loan financial aid, up to the amount of the student’s calculated financial need. Students in the program are provided with a University faculty or staff mentor and engage in the greater Boston community by participating in community service opportunities.
